Rooflights

Throughout this website you will see references to ‘Rooflight’, and ‘Skylight’. For the purpose of this site both these terms refer to a standalone, polycarbonate dome shaped unit (Available in standard sizes) which is installed on a flat roof. This includes an upstand for securing down the unit with roofing membrane and the actual Polycarbonate rooflight lid. We do not sell what are sometimes referred to as Roof lanterns or Continuous rooflights which are major architectural elements normally manufactured from glass.

Addlite sell polycarbonate rooflights available as fixed, ventilation or with a roof access kit. All of these are available in Opal, and clear layers. Please note: Roof access is designed for roofing maintenance, and not suited as a means of accessing a roof terrace.

Addlite cannot offer an installation service however provide detailed instructions on the process of installation. We recommend this is carried out by a skilled, qualified roofer to ensure optimal performance and most importantly, a long life. Download the instructions here.

We encourage you to check the condition of the rooflight on arrival to site. However we cannot be made responsible for damage caused by improper handling, damages caused through installation or damage to the roof or building as a result of poor installation. If in doubt please contact our sales team on 01922 711185

SUNLUME Sun Tunnels

A Sunpipe can be almost any length you wish, however, it looses 6% of light for every metre of Sunpipe and there is a 12% light reduction for every 45° bend. For very long Sun Tunnels a larger diameter is recommended. On smaller sizes the total effective maximum length is 8 m, and up to 20 m on larger sizes.

In general terms we recommend 2m spacing for 230mm diameter Sun Tunnels, 3m for 300mm, 4m for 450mm and 5m spacing for 530mm diameter sun pipes.

No, normally it is not necessary to apply for planning permission for the installation of a Sun Tunnel. However, if your property is situated in Scotland or a Conservation Area then specific permission must be obtained from your Listed Building Officer.

Yes, however in summer months, due to the high efficiency of our light tubes, your bedroom might be flooded with natural daylight in the morning. For this reason, installations in bedrooms or hospital wards can be supplied with a motorised light shut off damper.

Due to the shape of the dome, our Sun Tunnels are self-cleaning. The ceiling diffuser fits tightly into the base of the fixing ring and prevents dust and dirt entering the system. As a result the interior silver mirror finish surface never requires any maintenance.

Our polycarbonate roof domes are UV protected and carry a ten year guarantee. After 10 years a slight
clouding of the external surface may occur.

The overall light output will depend on the time of the year, the position of the Sun Tunnel on your roof, the size of Sun Tube and the internal finishes of your room.
